Increased anti-tobacco campaign is necessary in order to discourage people from consuming the harmful product, observed speakers on Thursday.
They came up with the assertion at an award giving ceremony organised by National Anti-Tobacco Platform under Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF).
The ceremony, titled Tobacco Control Medal Award 2018, was organised to give award to institutes and individuals who contributed in anti-tobacco activities.
State minister for health and family welfare Zahid Maleque was present on the occasion as the chief guest with Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, chairman of the PKSF, in the chair.
Professor Brig (retd) Abdul Malik also attended the function as the special guest.
Managing director of PKSF Md. Abdul Karim gave the welcome speech at the event.
Dhaka Ahsania Mission received the Tobacco Control Medal 2018 in the institution category.
The award is given considering the quality, extent and effect of the organisation's activities.
Dr. Md Mostafa Zaman got the award in the publication and research category, considering the nature, relevance and number of publications of him.
