At least three alleged robbers were killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion in Sukhpara Char area under Swarankhola range of the Sundarbans on Thursday morning.
The Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The “gunfight” took place when alleged members of the robber gang, locally known as named Suman Bahini, fired gunshots at a team of RAB in Shukhpara Char area around 8:40am, said Major Sohel Rana,operation officer of RAB-8, in Barisal.
Several gunshots were traded between the robber gang and the RAB members during the gun fight.
Three robbers were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, said UNB citing the RAB commander.
RAB also recovered two single barrel guns, one rifle, one pipe gun, four sharp weapons and 39 rounds of bullets from the spot.
