Three 'militants' die in RAB raid on hideout in Dhaka

Three suspected militants were killed during an operation conducted by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Dhaka city's west Nakhalpara area in the early hours of Friday.

Two RAB members were also injured during the drive.

"The drive started after midnight at around 2am on Friday and the drive is still going on," said Deputy Director of RAB headquarter Major Mehedi.

Acting on a tip-off, he said the RAB-3 members cordoned the militant hideout located at 13/1'Rubi Vila',a six-storey building just behind the Prime Minister's office. The militants opened fire on the RAB after sensing their presence.

The RAB members stormed the gate of the building and evacuated some 65 inhabitants of the building. The elite forces have arrested a few persons from the spot for further query.

The RAB members retaliated on them and recovered three bodies from the fifth floor of the house, he added, reports BSS.

The RAB members recovered grenade, suicidal belt and pistol from the spot. They also recovered two fake NID cards with bearing names ---Zahid and Sajib.

"The RAB-3 recovered three dead bodies from the fifth floor of the house and the militants committed suicide after blasting the grenade," said RAB Director General Benjir Ahmed in a press briefing held at RAB headquarters here.

Age range of deceased militants is 20 to 30.

The suspected militants rented the house on January 4, after showing the identity of Zahid, but the building owner have no detailed information about them, he said.

The injured RAB members were shifted to the hospital for treatment.
