A man and his son were among three sentenced to life imprisonment on Thursday for killing the former’s step-brother during a dispute over distribution of family property in Jashore.
The convicts are Md Shahjahan Molla, 50, son of Md Malek Molla, his son Md Ibrahim Molla, 20, and Md Habibar Rarkar, 50, son of late Tozam Sarkar of Purakhali village in the upazila.
Khulna Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge MA Rab Hawladar also fined the trio Tk 20,000 each or another one year jail in default, reports UNB.
The court also acquitted four others. All the convicts were present in the dock during the verdict's announcement.
According to case statement, the convicts hacked Kalam Molla with a sharp weapon during a family feud at Purakhali village of Abhaynagar Upazila on May 14, 2017. Kalam, severely injured during the attack, died after being taken to hospital.
His wife later filed a case at Abhaynagar Police Station in this connection.
