Three drug suspects die in Jhenidah, Mymensingh 'gunfights'

Three suspected drug traders were killed in alleged gunfights with law enforcers in two districts in the early hours of Sunday.

Two of them - Sajjadur Rahman and Abdur Razzak -  died in Jhenidah and the third - Faruk Miah, 31 - in Mymensingh.

RAB-6 Company Commander Golam Morshed said on secret information, a team of them raided a house at Probhati in Jhenidah district town the area at around 2:00 am.

Sensing presence of the RAB members, the drug traders opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back in self-defence, triggering a gunfight.

After the gunfight, they recovered the bullet-hit bodies of Sajjadur Rahman and Abdur Razzak, who were suspected as being involved in trading drugs, from the spot.

Two Rab members were also injured in the same gunfight.

They recovered two one-shooter guns, 55 bottles of Phensidyl and 152 pieces of Yaba tablet from the spot.

In Mymensingh, suspected drug trader Faruk was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Atharbari area of Ishwarganj Upazila at around 2:15am.

On secret information that a gang of drug traders gathered in the area over sharing drug money, a team of police conducted a drive, said Ahmed Kabir, officer-in-charge Ishwarganj Police Station.

Sensing presence of the police, the drug suspects hurled brick chips and opened fire on them.

The law enforcers fired back in self-defence, triggering the gunfight, leaving Faruk injured.

Later, the injured was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, UNB reported.

Besides, in their anti-drug drives, police arrested 59 people from the district.

With the latest deaths, at least 127 people were killed in 'gunfights' with members of law enforcement agencies while 37 bodies of suspected drug traders were recovered after reported gun battles between rival groups during the countrywide anti-narcotic drives since 15 May.
