Three die of dengue in Dhaka, Barishal

Three people died of mosquito-borne dengue in Dhaka and Barishal today (Tuesday).

Of them, one died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and two others at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) in Barishal.

DMCH assistant director Nasir Uddin said Farzana Hossain, 42, hailing from Siddhirganj of Narayangan, died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital around 1:45am.

With the latest, the hospital witnessed the death of eight people, including six women, from dengue in two months from June to July, he said.

Two others who died at the Barishal hospital were identified as Aslam Khan, 24, son of Nasir Khan in Bakerganj upazila, and Mohammad Sohel, 18, son of Adam Ali of Kawkhali upazila in Pirojpur district.

SMCH director Dr Bakir Hossain said Aslam was admitted to the hospital on Monday night with dengue and he died there around 3:15am.

Infected with dengue, Sohel was also brought to the hospital on Monday. He succumbed to the virus around 9:00am, Dr Bakir said.

Currently, a total of 24 patients infected with dengue are taking treatment at the hospital while 39 others were discharged after treatment, he said. 

Meanwhile, UNB reports, some 1,096 people suffering from dengue fever were hospitalised across the country in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am on Monday, showing a gradual rise in the number of such patients over the last several days. 

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the number of dengue patients was 824 on Sunday while 683 on Saturday, 603 on Friday and 547 on Thursday.

The dengue has now spread to 50 districts of the country.

From January 1 till the date, there have been 13,637 confirmed dengue cases.
