Thousands of people have gathered in Dhaka city in protests against the persecution of Muslims in India.
As part of their protests, they started marching towards the Indian embassy, but police put a barricade before them as they reached Purana Paltan crossing around 11:30pm starting from the premises of the national mosque of Bangladesh Baitul Mokarram in the city.
Traffic movement, which came to a total halt due to the protests in the area, returned to normalcy some time after the protesters peacefully retreated and dispersed.
Islami Andolon, a minor Islamist political party, organised the mammoth rally.
