TANGAIL, Dec 01: Radish growers in the district are expecting a good production this season amid favourable weather conditions.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Tangail sources said some 1,250 hectares of land in 12 upazilas of the district have been brought under radish cultivation during the current season.
Sources many farmers have started harvesting their produce and they are happy over the yield.
Newly-harvested radish is selling at Tk 10 to Tk 15 per kg in the local kitchen markets.
Vegetable trader Shajedul Islam of Soyani Bazar said radish growers in the area are making a handsome profit this season amid good market prices and demand.
Aminur Rahman of Deuli village under Sadar upazila said he cultivated radish in 40 decimals of land this season.
The farmer said he has already earned Tk 25,000 by selling his produce and is expecting to make more profit till the end of the season.
Ashraf Miah of Char Pakullah village under Tangail Sadar said radish farming is popular in the area. A good number of growers have attained financial solvency by cultivating radish on vast tract of land every winter.
Sub-assistant agriculture officer of DAE Ruhul Amin said radish grows well in the district. Low production cost, high demand and fair market prices encourage the farmers to grow the item on commercial basis.
