Symposium on fake news, hate speech in city Saturday

A symposium on fake news, hate speech and its consequences will be held at Cosmos Centre in the city on Saturday morning.

Cosmos Foundation, the philanthropic concern of Bangladeshi conglomerate Cosmos Group, will organise the symposium titled 'Fake News & Hate Speech, Causes & Consequences: How it subverts our Democratic Systems.'

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq will attend the event as the chief guest. It will begin at 10:30am, reports UNB.

President of Association for Accountability and Internet Democracy (AAID) Dan Shefet, who is also an expert authority on European and IT Law, will be the keynote speaker.

Principal Research Fellow at the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS), National University of Singapore and a former Adviser to Bangladesh's previous caretaker government Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury will chair the session.

Cosmos Foundation Chairman Enayetullah Khan will deliver the welcome speech.
