Sylhet's rail link with Dhaka, Chattogram restored after 27 hours

The railway communication with Sylhet has fully restored after an oil-laden train derailed in Fenchuganj upazila of the district on Thursday night.

Confirming the matter, Abdus Sattar, officer-in-charge of Sylhet Railway Police Station told The Financial Express that the rail communication became fully normal after 27 hours as Upaban Express left Sylhet railway station at 3:00 am today ( Saturday).

Earlier, the oil-carrying train was derailed in the area leaving the rail communication of Sylhet with Dhaka and Chattogram suspended.

Out of 20, eight tankers of the oil-laden train were derailed at Gutigaon area between Maijgaon and Bialibazar of the upazila around 11:55 pm on Thursday.

The fuel oil in the tank wagon spread in the surrounding area including water-bodies.

Each oil tanker was carrying some 41,000 to 42,000 liters of oil.

An investigation committee consisting of five members has been asked to submit the report within three days.
