Police have recovered the dead body of engineer Md Lutfur Rahman, the managing director of Sylhet Gas Fields Limited at his Haripur residence under Jaintapur Upazila.
The body was found hanging from a ceiling fan on Wednesday afternoon.
The company's Deputy Manager Md Shah Alam said he sensed something wrong after calling colleague Lutfur Rahman in the morning who was getting late for work.
"Workers went to his residence after failing to get response from him over phone. Their attempt to enter his house did not succeed as the door was locked from inside. They looked through a window and saw his body hanging from the ceiling. The police were informed."
Lutfur lived alone at his residence. His wife lives in Dhaka with their son and daughter.
The body has been sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital's morgue for post-mortem, said Jaintapur Police OC Moinul Zakir.
Despite the incident initially appearing as a case of suicide, police will investigate to confirm the actual cause of his death, said the OC.
Md Lutfur Rahman took up the post of managing director at Sylhet Gas Fields on April 8, 2018.
