Swadhinata Padak recipient Khashruzzaman’s 8th death anniversary today

The eigth death anniversary Dr Khashruzzaman Choudhury, a freedom fighter and Swadhinata Padak (Independence Medal) recipient, will be observed today (February 4).

A member of the erstwhile Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP), Dr Khashruzzaman organised freedom fighters during the 1971 liberation war in Kishoreganj where he was serving as sub-divisional officer (SDO).

He joined the home ministry of the Mujibnagar government as deputy secretary. After independence, he was appointed deputy commissioner of Mymensingh district and also served the education ministry looking after UNESCO affairs.

He was awarded the Swadhinata Padak posthumously.

After obtaining Master's degree from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, USA, he received his doctoral degree in economics from Syracuse University, Upstate New York and served as a professor at Southern University at Baton Rouge in Louisiana.

An author of textbooks of economics, Dr Khashruzzaman contributed articles in Bengali and English to different journals at home and abroad. He published books on short stories, poetry, rhyme, humor and traveling.

He wrote the books with his co-author Tahmina Zaman. The historical record of the liberation war titled "The Turbulent 1971: My Diary" written by him was published in 2020.

On this day in 2013, Dr Khashruzzaman passed away at his Baton Rouge residence in Louisiana. He left his wife Professor Tahmina Zaman, son, daughter, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grand children, relatives, and many well-wishers to mourn his death.

His family members, friends, and well-wishers remember him in their prayers. Today, prayers will be held in mosque at home and abroad.
