A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police at Chhechrapukuria under Debidwar upazila in Cumilla in the early hours of Saturday.
Deceased Sumon, son of Habibur Rahman of Kuruin village, was a member of inter-district robber gang. He was wanted in 15 cases, said police.
Debidwar Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman said they were tipped off that a gang of robbers was preparing to commit robberies and then a team of them conducted a drive there at around 1:15 am.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the gang fired gunshots, triggering a gunfight when Sumon died on the spot, he said, UNB reported.
OC Mizan said they have recovered a pipe gun along with a cartridge and other sharp weapons from the scene.
