A suspected mugger was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Mymensingh.
The shootout took place around 4:30am on Wednesday in an area known as Balurmath, where 22-year-old Nayeem died, said Mymensingh Detective Branch OC Ashikur Rahman.
Nayeem was detained on Tuesday over the murder of a man in a knife attack by muggers on Jan 19.
“Police took Nayeem to Balurmath on Wednesday night to nab his accomplices. But a gun fight took place as the miscreants started hurling explosives prompting the police to retaliate,” Ashikur said.
“Nayeem died on the spot after being shot,” he said adding that two police men suffered injuries in the shootout.”
Bdnews24 said Nayeem’s body was kept at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue.
