The Supreme Court (SC) has deferred until Wednesday a hearing on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, pending a verdict.

The hearing came after the Anti-Corruption Commission challenged the High Court’s bail order issued earlier.

The bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, was scheduled to pass the order on Tuesday. But the court deferred the hearing until 1:00pm on Wednesday.

The senior leaders of BNP were present at the court premises, reports bdnews24.

Khaleda has been in the old jailhouse on Nazimuddin Road since Feb 8 when a special court sentenced her to five years in prison for corruption in the orphanage trust.

The High Court on Mar 12 granted her a four-month interim bail, considering age and health issues after the special court released the full verdict.

When ACC and the State moved the Appellate Division, it suspended the bail order until May 8, allowing these two to start appeals against the bail.
