The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday conducted a drive in Kashimpur Central Jail at Gazipur over the allegations of providing substandard food to prisoners and insufficient medical treatment for them.

During the drive, the enforcement unit of ACC led by its deputy director Salam Ali Mollah found primary evidence that a section of the prison guards is illegally allowing some prisoners to use mobile phones.

In the meantime, the team also recovered a mobile phone from a prison cell by using scanning device, according to the ACC's public relations department.

On January 08, the Kashimpur Jail authorities seized a mobile phone set from Nur Hossain who was awarded death sentence in the Narayanganj seven-murder case.

The convict is a former councillor of Narayanganj City Corporation who has been in the condemned cell of Kashimpur Jail since 2017 after getting the death sentence.

The jail authority has already formed a three-member committee to probe the incident.

On the day, the ACC team accompanied by the concerned officials of the jail visited the kitchen where they observed that food has been cooked in unhygienic environment while food quality was also not good.

The jail authority informed the team that the food ingredients are supplied by the government food warehouse so they have nothing to do with the quality of the food.

In a visit to the jail hospital, the commission found that the hospital doesn't have its own doctors or nurses. One doctor has been working on deputation.
