Nearly 14 per cent of private hospitals in the country never applied for a licence, a recent study has found.
The survey conducted by International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) also revealed that licences of a large number of registered hospitals have already expired.
icddr,b and Data for Impact (D4I) jointly disclosed the study at a seminar on icddr,b’s Mohakhali campus recently.
The seminar also discussed licensing challenges for private healthcare facilities in Bangladesh.
Dr Shams El Arifeen presented the assessment findings, Chief of Party, Research for Decision Makers Activity and Senior Director, MCHD, icddr,b.
Dr Supriya Sarker, Programme Manager of HSM, DGHS presented the steps taken by the DGHS based on this assessment.
Dr Sheikh Dawud Adnan, Deputy Director (Hospital) of HSM, DGHS shared the future initiatives of the unit in this regard.
This study was conducted from 2019-20. However, according to icddr,b, the situation may have changed now.
On Monday, some 35 non-compliant and unauthorised healthcare facilities were sealed off on the first day of the countrywide crackdown.
