Stress on formulating separate directorate for children

A separate directorate for children under the Ministry of Children and Women Affairs with office at upazila level was suggested to coordinate all kinds of activities related to the children across the country.

Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF), a non-government organisation, came up with the recommendation at a press conference held at the National Press Club in the city on Monday, marking the release of a report titled 'Child Situation in Bangladesh 2017'.

MJF Executive Director Shaheen Anam presided over the event while Programme Coordinator Abdullah Al Mamun presented the report.

The organisation also made a series of recommendations, including formulation of national child security framework, allocation of budget for children at primary level, implementation of related laws to prevent misuse of ICT, no use of the children in election campaign and formulation of a national plan to protect the children.

The report which was made basing on reports published in different dailies in 2017 showed that the children's condition in Bangladesh has deteriorated at all level across the country in 2017 comparing to 2016.

Professor of Dhaka University Law Department Dr Shahnaz Huda addressed the conference as the discussant.

Speaking at the conference, Professor Shahnaz underscored the need for monitoring the execution process of existing laws related to the children.

She also urged the journalists to follow guidelines during publishing reports on child affairs.
