Stern action against corruption, irregularities in fisheries sector, warns minister

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim on Tuesday warned of stern action against any kind of corruption and irregularities in fisheries and livestock sector amid the Covid-19 crisis.

The minister came up with the warning in a post-Eid-ul-Azha views exchange meeting with the ministry officials and employees at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

“No irregularities are expected in the implementation of any project. It will not be tolerated in any way. According to the law, the officials involved in the projects have to fulfil their responsibilities. We have to ensure transparency in the discharge of duties. If the officials of the ministry find any irregularities in the field inspection, they will have to prepare a complete report and bring up the overall picture”, he said.

The minister also insisted that the coronavirus, recent cyclones and the floods have affected farms, producers and market players in the fisheries and livestock sector in many ways. To compensate for this loss, the pace of work must be increased. There is no shortage of measures taken by the government so far.

Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Rawnak Mahmud, among others, were present in the meeting.
