Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has taken an initiative to provide birth registration certificates to the citizens from the ward councillor's office to reduce public suffering and make the birth registration process easier.

A summary has already been sent to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives ministry in this regard for final approval, reports UNB.

If the DNCC gets the final approval of the summary from the ministry, the local ward councillor will be the registrar, and the secretary of the councillor's office will be assistant registrar in issuing the birth registration. As a result, no one needs to go to the zonal office of the DNCC for birth registration.

The DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam disclosed this matter in the 18th corporation meeting held at Nagar Bhaban of Gulshan on Sunday.

Presently, one has to collect a birth registration certificate from the DNCC's Zonal office within the stipulated time after submitting birth registration application. As a result of which the common people have to suffer a little. Finally, considering the plight and suffering of the people, it was decided to take birth registration process to ward level in the meeting.

Besides, the corporation meeting also decided to name two roads of Mirpur Section-13 and Mirpur Section-14 sections after 'Bir Muktijoddha Din Mohammad Mollah', and 'Bir Muktijoddha Abdul Aziz', while another road of Sialbari crossing named after 'Bir Muktijoddha Amir Hossain Mollah'.

The meeting also discussed several issues, including a crash program to kill Aedes and Culex mosquitoes and clean water bodies, purchase of six kathas of land for construction of cemetery, agreement to implement tree planting programme, street vendor management programme in public sector.
