Steps taken to improve service quality at police stations: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Javed Patwary on Sunday said several effective steps have been taken to improve the quality of services at police stations, aiming to build a people-friendly police system in the country.

"There has always been a change in the society. People's expectations and demands are also increasing. In order to provide the best services to the people, changes are being made to policing. We are committed to building a people-friendly police system," the IGP said while addressing at the inauguration of a five-day training workshop.

The workshop on 'Innovation in Public Service' at the International Conference Centre of Police Staff College Bangladesh (PSC) was held at Mirpur in the capital.

PSC Rector (Additional IGP) Dr M Sadiqur Rahman presided over the programme, while Director General of Governance Innovation Unit of the Prime Minister's Office Mohammad Abdul Halim and Additional IGP Mohsin Hossain were present as special guests in the programme, reports UNB.

The IGP said that innovation training has been organised aiming to provide easy and quickest access to public services.

He hoped that the trainee police officers will be able to provide the best services to the people at the earliest time by utilizing the knowledge that would be gathered from the training workshop.

Referring to the introduction of National Emergency Services '999' program, the IGP said that as a result of this service, people are getting faster police assistance, fire service and ambulance services. "The '999' programme has already become very popular with the people," he added.

Some 35 Additional Superintendent of Police (SPs) and ASPs in different units of Bangladesh Police have been participating in the workshop.

Lead facilitator of the A2I project of the Prime Minister's Office Md Sanaul Huq, other officials and faculty members of the PSC were present. The A2I project has been providing assistance in the training workshop.
