The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Sunday launched a smartphone application 'Sobar Dhaka' in an effort to ensure its accountability to city dwellers.
This app will help local residents lodge complaints about any irregularities in the city authority's services, using texts, images and geographical position as well.
LGRD Minister Tajul Islam attended the launching ceremony and the discussion meeting as the chief guest.
DNCC organised the programme at Krishibid Institution in the city's Farmgate area, marking Bangabandhu's Home-coming Day.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Information Communi-cation Technology (ICT), Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, president of Dhaka North City Awami League, and its General Secretary S M Mannan Kochi attended the programme as the special guests. DNCC mayor Atiqul Islam presided over it, said a press release.
In his speech, Mr Tajul said the whole globe is now observing Bangladesh's development as dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
"The country has become a role model showing prospect in many fields including economy, education and health."
The government has been implementing a wide range of programmes to become a developed nation by 2041, he added.
Mr Palak said 'Sobar Dhaka' is a dynamic application which will allow people to send complaints directly to the DNCC from any place using mobile phone.
By dint of geographical positioning system or GPS information, the DNCC staff can visit the area where from the complaints are filed in many cases.
Speaking on the occasion, the DNCC mayor said they were launching the ICT-based service marking the Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day aiming to ensure transparency and accountability of the city authority.
"As the mayor, I am bound to be accountable. similarly every councillor and DNCC staff ought to be accountable. This is why the app has been developed," said Mr Islam.
Regarding the eviction drive, the mayor said the DNCC will demolish all establishments built grabbing its land and water bodies.
