Providing skills-based training to create human capital is crucial for the country to achieve its economic goals and meet the challenges stemming from the fourth industrial revolution.
Experts observed this at a workshop on 'Competency based training and assessment system for managers of skill training providers' organised by the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) at its office in the city on Saturday, said a press statement.
Secretary to the Ministry Social welfare Jahangir Alam attended the workshop as the chief guest and Director General of Directorate of Technical Education Omar Faruque as the special guest.
In his speech, Secretary Jahangir Alam said the skills-based training is of great importance to sustain an economy amid the challenges and opportunities of globalisation.
"NSDA has been performing to establish an integrated strategy to provide comprehensive training to the people," he said.
He also stressed the need for efforts to improve the skills of workers in order to meet the demand for skilled workers.
He requested the training providers to impart training following the NSDA curriculum and syllabus.
Director General of Directorate of Technical Education Omar Faruque said it is essential to provide needs-based trainings and utilise them in order to create human capital for the economy to grow.
He emphasized the language proficiency of migrant workers so that they can make the best use of their skills and earn more foreign currency.
Echoing the same view, Executive Director of Skills for Employment Investment Programme (SEIP) Fatema Rahim Veena highlighted the need for creating skilled human resources to cope with the challenges posed by the fourth industrial revolution.
NSDA Executive Director Nasreen Afroz said there is a notable gap between the supply and demand for skilled manpower in different industries.
Highlighting the need for skilled human capital in the country, she said the workshop would help define the way forward.
Fifty representatives of skills training providing organisations affiliated with the NSDA and its officials took part in the workshop.
