Nine people, including at least six Bangladeshi nationals, have reportedly been killed in a road accident in Saudi Arabia’s Jizan.
The incident occurred on the road between the governorates of Samtah and Al-Hareth on Sunday morning, according to a report from Riyadh Daily.
Bangladesh Consulate in Jeddah Labour Councillor Aminul Islam said they had received news of the accident and had sent officials to the scene.
The consulate is also maintaining communications with the Saudi authorities, he said.
More information would be available later on Sunday, Islam said.
Bangladeshi expatriate Shahin Shajahan said his brother Amir Hossain was among the dead.
Amir had worked for a Saudi Arabian company called Al Fahad. The others killed in the accident also worked for the same company.
Twenty-seven of the company’s workers were heading to work on a pickup truck on Sunday when it crashed into a car headed in the opposite direction and flipped over.
According to Riyadh Daily, rescue workers from the Red Crescent found seven dead at the scene and 15 injured, who they sent to hospital. Six of the injured were in critical condition.
The death toll later rose to nine, Shajahan said.
Al Fahad company employee Faridul Islam was able to confirm the names of six of the dead, reports bdnews24.
They were identified as Dulal from Sirajganj, Shafiqul from Tangail, Matiur Rahman from Narayanganj, Amir Hossain from Narsingdi and Hridoy from Kishoreganj.
Another Bangladeshi, 36-year-old Badol, was killed in a motorcycle accident on the road from Saudi Arabia’s Al Hasa to Qatar. He was born in Tangail.
