As many as 2,065 new dengue patients have been hospitalised in the 24 hours to Monday morning in Bangladesh, breaking all previous records for a single day in the country’s history recorded in last 18 year.
The patients were hospitalised across the country from 8:00am Sunday to 8:00am Monday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services today noon.
Earlier on August 1, the number of dengue patients in a day was recorded at 1,712. The number of patients jumped again on Sunday after a drop over the past two days.
Besides, adult female Aedes mosquito population in Dhaka is now around 14 times higher than it was in the pre-monsoon period, it said earlier.
The viral fever claimed at least 18 lives, the health directorate added. But local media reported that dengue claimed 57 lives so far.
Out of the total 1,159 of the total patients are from capital Dhaka, while the rest were from across the country.
With the addition, the total number of infections across the country this year has risen to an all-time high of 27,434.
Among the hospitals, Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) received the highest 183 number patients.
