Dr Toufiq M Seraj, managing director of Sheltech (Pvt) Ltd, a leading real estate company died in Doha of Qatar on Friday. He was 63.
Sheltech officials said Seraj was accompanying chairman Kutubuddin Ahmed to attend a fair at Spain's Barcelona.
On the way, while on a Doha-bound flight from Dhaka, he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at the bathroom, they said.
After the flight landed at the Doha International Airport, he was rushed to the doctors only to be declared dead immediately, the officials added.
Seraj was the founder managing director of Sheltech (Pvt.) Ltd. and its associated companies.
He was the founding president of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh and former president of Bangladesh Tennis Federation.
He was also former vice-president of Bangladesh Badminton Federation.
An engineer and urban planner by profession, Dr Seraj obtained his Ph.D. in civic design from the University of Liverpool in the UK as a Commonwealth Scholar.
Earlier, he did his honours and Masters from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He also held academic positions there.
