The government has decided to appoint Mr Md. Shameem Ahsan, ndc, currently serving as the high commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, as the next ambassador of Bangladesh to Italy, the foreign ministry said on Monday.
Mr Ahsan is a career foreign service officer belonging to the 11th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) foreign affairs cadre.
In his distinguished diplomatic career, he worked in various capacities in Bangladesh missions in Kuwait, Doha, Nairobi, Rome and Washington DC.
Prior to his present assignment, he served as the Bangladesh consul general in New York. At the headquarters, he served in various capacities including as director general (External Publicity) and (Europe).
He has a master's and honours degree in political science (first class first in both) from the University of Dhaka. He stood first in order of merit in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams from the humanities group under Jashore Board. Also, he received numerous awards throughout his student life for academic feats.
An ardent debater throughout his student life, Mr Ahsan enjoys reciting poems. He is married and blessed with one daughter.
