Shakib to fight corruption as ACC goodwill envoy

Bangladesh's star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has become an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) goodwill ambassador to campaign against corruption.

The signing ceremony was held at the ACC's office at Segunbagicha in Dhaka on Sunday.

Shakib Al Hasan and ACC Director General (Resistance) Mohammad Zafar Iqbal signed the contract.

ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmud said all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is the best in the world today with his talent, dedication and genuine efforts.

"If teenagers and young people of our country try to follow him, they too can be successful in their respective fields," he said.

The ACC boss said "We must put all the power against corruption, the biggest problem of our country."

"We can't sacrifice our next generation's future for some corrupt people. The Commission will use all the power against the corrupt people in collaboration with everyone," he said.

Iqbal Mahmud said "The source of all the energy of the society is youth society. If the youth community takes a firm stand against corruption like Shakib Al Hasan, there will be no corruption in the society."

ACC goodwill ambassador Shakib Al Hasan said "I am proud to be able to work with an organisation like the Anti-Corruption Commission. If a person is benefited by my efforts ending the corruption, then I will feel successful."

He said "From today, I started the new journey to build a corruption-free country. We will work jointly for the development of the country without corruption."

Earlier, the ACC Chairman offered flowers to Shakib when he arrived at the Commission office.

Captain in Twenty20 International and Tests Shakib Al Hasan is considered as the greatest cricketer ever played for Bangladesh.

UNB said, Shakib is acknowledged as the best all-rounder in the world with the highest current rankings in all formats of the game.

ACC chairman Iqbal Mahmud presided over the ceremony while ACC secretary Dr Shamsul Arefin, and commissioner AFM Aminul Islam spoke.
