Shahjalal International Airport wall collapse leaves one dead

At least one construction worker was killed when a wall of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s customs office collapsed on him Tuesday.

The deceased is yet to be identified.

Several other workers are also feared to be trapped inside the office, Nur-e-Azam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Airport Police Station, has confirmed the news.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP media) of Armed Police Battalion Tarique Ahmed said a construction of drainage beside the import cargo parking area of the customs office was underway in the morning.

The wall collapsed when the workers were digging a 7 to 8 feet deep hole on the ground beside the custom house office for construction of a drainage line, killing one on the spot and injuring other, he said.

UNB said five units of Fire Service and Civil Defence were conducting the rescue operation, he added.
