Drik Gallery Managing Director Shahidul Alam was taken back to the office of Detective Branch of police on Wednesday afternoon after necessary medical check-up at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

According to BSS, Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said a DB team took back Shahidul Alam to the DB office on completion of his medical tests at the hospital.

Earlier in the day, Shahidul Alam was taken to the hospital around 8:00am for treatment following a High Court order, said Deputy Commissioner (DB-North) Moshiur Rahman.

He underwent necessary tests at the hospital and new course of actions will be taken according to their advice, said the police official.

Earlier on Sunday night, detectives detained Shahidul Alam, also chairman of Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, from his Dhanmondi residence following his Facebook posts on the student protests over road safety.

Later on Monday, he was shown arrested in a case filed under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act accusing him of spreading propaganda and false information through social media and electronic media.

Police produced him before the court on the same day seeking a 10- day remand while the court placed him on a seven-day remand.

On Tuesday, an HC bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir asked the authorities concerned to send Shahidul to BSMMU for his treatment.

The court also asked the relevant authorities to form a medical board to examine his health and submit a report on his health condition on Thursday.
