BOGRA, Jan 24: Boro paddy growers from different villages are worried for as severe cold like situation have damaged many seedbeds in the district.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources, farmers of 12 upazilas of the district have prepared Boro seedbed on over 11,080 hectares of land this season to grow the paddy on nearly 0.2 million hectares of land.
"We have got reports that some 20 hectares of land have been attacked with disease due to cold but the peasants claimed more seedbeds have been attacked with the problem across the district", DAE official said.
In a recent visit this correspondent found peasants of Dhunot, Sarikandi, Sonatola, Dupchanchia, Adamdighi, Sherpur, Gabtoly, Shajahanpur and Sadar upazilas are the worst suffers.
"I have bought some five decimals of land under Boro seedbed in a view to grow paddy on six bigha of land. But my seedbed has been totally damaged due to cold like situation," said farmer Mohsin Ali of under Kahaloo upazila.
Sub-assistance agriculture officer of DAE Faridur Rahman suggested the affected farmers to provide tubewell water if possible. Besides, the farmer can use the sulfur and gypsum in the affected seedbed to get a good result.
Agri officials suggest the growers to sprinkle water at night and dry to day time. The farmers are to use polythene bags on the seedbed at the night and open to day time.
