BNP leaders and activists brought out a procession from Purana Paltan area in Dhaka city on Saturday in protests against the imprisonment of the party's Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a graft case.

They started the procession in front of Kakrail Mosque around 1:20 pm. As they reached Fakirapool Water Tank within minutes, around 1:30 pm, police chased and dispersed them.

Police also arrested several party leaders and activists who were part of the procession, a part of the two-day protest programme starting from Friday, reports UNB.

On Thursday, a Dhaka court jailed Khaleda for five years and five others, including her son Tarique Rahman, for 10 years in a Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, prompting her party to announce the protest.
