Seven get death sentences over Gazipur businessman murder

A Gazipur court has sentenced seven people to death in a case filed in connection with the murder of a businessman in 2011.

Gazipur District and Sessions Judge AKM Enamul Haque announced the verdict on Monday.

The death row convicts are: Razeeb Hossain aka Raju, Md Quayyum, Md Razeeb Hossain, Md Farooq Hossain, Md Shafiqul Islam aka Parvez, Md Ali Hossain aka Hossain Ali, and Mohammad Ali aka Chhoto Ali, reports bdnews24.

The court also sentenced another accused Masud to 10 years imprisonment, says a UNB report.

Suspects Enamul Haque and Shamsul Haque have been acquitted.

According to the prosecution, there was an enmity between Milon Bhuiyan, son of Habibur Rahman in Lakshmipura area and the convicts over money.

The convicts obstructed Milon in front of Bhawal National Park on February 26 in 2011 and hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him dead.

Victim's uncle Akhter Hossain filed a case with Joydebpur Police Station. Later, Police submitted chargesheet against 10 people.

Seven of the suspects were arrested while the others are at large.
