At least seven Bangladeshi workers were seriously injured after being hit by a speeding car while they were queuing to board a bus in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday.
The identities of the injured Bangladeshis were yet to be known.
According to Malaysian national news agency BERNAMA, the accident took place at 8.45am at Jalan 5/1 Sepah Puteri, Section 5, Kota Damansara of the capital city.
The victims, aged between 20 and 40 years, were highway construction workers.
They were lining up to board a bus when a car, driven by a local resident, suddenly ploughed into them.
BERNAMA quoted a man Bahari Sitam, 58, a food stall owner at nearby area, as a witness of the incident.
A Rapid KL bus stopped at the bus stop to pick up passengers when a car crashed into queuing Bangladeshis, he said.
“What I heard was that the driver of the car had been speeding and believed to be busy with his phone before he tried to avoid the bus, but failed to do so and crashed into the victims and the bus,” he told reporters on Saturday.
He added that a Bangladeshi friend of the victims informed him that they were planning to go to the capital this morning to buy things as they were scheduled to fly home to Bangladesh tomorrow (Sunday) night.
Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said the accident occurred when the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle after swerving to avoid the stationary bus.
“All victims including the car driver who suffered minor injuries were sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for further treatment,” he said in a statement.
