JHENIDAH, Aug 26: The Skill Development Centre (SDC) under the Urban Community Development (UCD) at Jhenidah social services office is playing a vital role imparting training to the youths of the municipality and 16 surrounding villages in computer office application, dressmaking and tailoring and freelance outsourcing courses.
The UCD, Jhenidah has trained 3,400 youths in computer office application, dressmaking and tailoring and freelance outsourcing courses.
Now 200, 18 and 11 trainees are being trained here in computer office application, dressmaking and tailoring and freelance outsourcing courses respectively.
The training courses on computer office application and dressmaking and tailoring were started here under Urban Community Development Program (UCDP) in 2005, with other 79 units in 64 districts across the country.
However, the trainees are now getting more benefited as they are receiving internet verifiable certificates under Technical Board. Previously the learners were given locally useable certificates from the Social Services Department.
At present, many trainees are working at different government, semi-government and non-government offices. Many others are also self-employed opening private business centres.
Youths trained here from nine wards under Jhenidah municipality and nearby 16 villages can take loan from the revolving fund to start business individually.
Alamin, a trainee of computer office application course of the SDC told this correspondent that he had been a trainee of SDC.
He took Tk 20,000 loan from the revolving fund. He has begun a business of computer typing before Jhenidah municipality office and is self-sufficient now.
Another trainee disabled Sadrul Amin said that he was running his computer typing business at Shikdar Market with the loan he had got from the revolving fund after taking training.
Nayan Dutta (20), a final year student of BBA (Honours) of Jhenidah Govt. KC College said, "I am taking training on computer office application course here under SDC. I am learning much on computer programming. I know this knowledge is essential for getting jobs in various sectors including banking one."
Sojoni Rani, a trainee of dressmaking and tailoring course said that she was learning sewing and needlework at the centre. She wanted to do needlework learning from there.
Shikha Rani Saha, trainer of dressmaking and tailoring course said, "Many learners took training from here. A number of skilled women are now doing order work, while many are doing their own household dressmaking. Many others are also doing both the types."
Instructor of computer office application Md. Mahfuzur Rahman told the FE, "Many trainees have started computer typing shops. And several have made houses of their own through freelancing outsourcing. They have taken training on computer office application course here. Avijit and Monowar are two of such trainees."
Mohammad Hossain Khan, social services officer, UCD, Jhenidah said, "A total of 3,400 youths have taken training and certificates from here. Many of them are now engaged in self-employment activities. Many are also doing work in government office and other offices."
