People, in most parts of the country including Dhaka, are experiencing scorching heat during the month of Ramadan.
A mild to severe heatwave is sweeping over most parts of the country including the capital and it may continue for the next two days starting from 9 am on Monday, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
Meteorologist Dr Md Abul Kalam Mollik told the FE that a severe heatwave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Jashore & Chuadanga and it may continue.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka division and the rest of Rajshahi, Khulna division and Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Patuakhali districts are witnessing a mild to a moderate heatwave, he said.
According to the Met Office, Sunday’s highest temperature was 41 degrees Celsius in Chuadanga while Dhaka reported 36.4 degrees Celsius.
The country’s highest-ever temperature of 45.1 degrees Celsius was recorded in Rajshahi on May 18, 1972.
When asked why the ‘felt temperature’ is much higher in the capital than the actual temperature, the meteorologist replied that relative humidity is marked as much in the air, so the people feel 2 to 4 degrees higher temperature than the actual one.
However, a met office bulletin said rain/thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
The weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, it said.
