The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a High Court order that granted bail to two contractors accused in a corruption case involving Tk 100.0 million in supplying machinery and equipment to Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH).

Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Md Nuruzzaman passed 'no order' on a petition, filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) seeking stay on the HC order, after holding a virtual hearing.

Supreme Court's 'no order' means the High Court order remains in force, said Advocate AM Amin Uddin who appeared in the court on behalf of the accused.

The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder on June 21 granted bail to Abdullah Al Mamun, proprietor of Anik Traders, and Munshi Sajjad Hossain, an administrative officer of National Institute of Diseases of Chest and Hospital, on condition that they cannot withdraw the money of the bills they allegedly submitted to the authorities concerned.

The order of conditional bail will continue for one week after reopening of the court's regular activities following the ongoing closure, also said the HC order.

The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case against the two with its integrated district office in Faridpur on November 27, 2019. The accused were arrested in the case on February 20 this year.

According to the case statement, the accused tried to embezzle Tk 100.0 million of the government money by buying machines and equipment for the Faridpur Medical College Hospital unnecessarily at high prices and by misusing their power.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam took part in the hearing for the state and Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the ACC.
