SC stays HC order to compensate N’ganj mosque blast victims

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday stayed a High Court (HC) order that had directed Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited to give Tk 0.50 million as initial compensation to each of the victims of the blast in a mosque in West Talla area in Narayanganj, reports BSS.

Justice Md Nuruzzaman of Appellate Division Chamber Judge Court passed the order and sent the matter to the apex court regular bench for further hearing on December 1.

The Appellate Division came up with the order, allowing a plea of Titas Gas against the interim order of the High Court.

The High Court on September 9 had issued the order, asking Titas gas authorities to give the money within the next seven days and ordered Narayanganj deputy commissioner to distribute the money among the victims.

It also issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain in four weeks as to why it shall not pass order to give Tk 0.50 million to the families of each victim.

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Mar-um Khondaker filed the writ, while advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker moved the plea before the court. Deputy attorney general Nur Us Sadik argued for the state.
