SC orders Gazipur polls by June 28, overturning stay order

The Supreme Court has overturned a High Court stay order on the Gazipur City Corporation polls and directed the Election Commission to hold the election by June 28.

The bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, issued the order on Thursday in response to the petitions filed by two mayoral candidates and the Election Commission.

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announced the election schedule for Gazipur on March 23, and as such the election is to be held on May 15.
