SC lawyers appeal to CJ for regular court activities

A group of Supreme Court lawyers on Sunday made an appeal to Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain to restart the regular activities in all the courts across the country, including the Supreme Court, in the interest of the livelihood of around 60,000 lawyers.

Advocate Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi, former secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), submitted the petition on behalf of the lawyers’ group named General Lawyers Council.

The petition said, “The regular court activities across the country have been stopped since March 26 this year due to coronavirus pandemic. In this circumstance, most of the lawyers have fallen into deep financial crises as they were not able to conduct their cases regularly. Besides, they were also struggling to cope with the pressure of the justice seekers.”
