Saudi Arabia-bound stranded Bangladeshi migrant workers have demanded automatic renewals of visas so that they can return to work on time.

To this end, they met with Bangladesh’s Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad on Monday.

Talking to the FE, Mohiuddin Ashik, one of the workers, said their kfils (employer/sponsor) are not cooperating with them for visa extension-related services and so they are worried about whether they could join work on time.

Meanwhile, Mr Imran, the Bangladeshi expatriates minister, told the media that they have talked to the foreign minister about the visa renewal issue and hopefully there will soon come a solution.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Saudi government extended the validity of iqama (work permits) for 24 days.
