CHATTOGRAM: The two-day sampan festival opened on the Karnaphuli river on Friday morning as part of celebrating Mujib Year.
Chattogram city Awami League (AL) has arranged the programme with intent to save the river from pollution, siltation and encroachment of its land.
Mahatab Uddin Chowdhury, president of the city AL, inaugurated the fest as the chief guest.
One hundred sampans participated in the rally on the first day of the festival.
Addressing the inaugural function at Avoymitra Ghat, he said if the Karnaphuli remains alive, Chattogram port will remain alive and so will the country's economy.
