Sailors to have better job scope on foreign ships

The government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the European Union (EU) for the acceptance of Bangladeshi certificates to increase job opportunities for the country's sailors on foreign ships.

This was informed to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry at its 50th meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday.

Earlier, MoUs were inked with 29 countries including Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom in this regard, said an official handout, reports BSS.

Presided over by Standing Committee Chairman Major (Retd.) Rafiqul Islam, the meeting was attended by committee members Talukder Abdul Khaleq, Md Nurul Islam Sujan, Md Habibur Rahman, M Abdul Latif, Ranjit Kumar Roy and Advocate Momtaj Begum.

It was told in the meeting that steps have been taken to ink MoUs with different countries for the acceptance of Bangladeshi certificates across the globe to increase job opportunity for Bangladeshi sailors on foreign ships.

The committee recommended setting up a naval museum in the country, the release added.

Additional secretary of the shipping ministry and senior officials of the parliament, among others, were present in the meeting.
