Safe road movement: Nine more students released from Keraniganj jail

Nine more private university students, who were granted bail in cases filed over ‘vandalism and attacks’ on police during the recent student movement demanding safe roads, walked out of Keraniganj central jail on Monday morning.

They were released around 9:00 am, said jailer Mahbubur Rahman.

Earlier, nine students were let go at around 9:30 pm on Sunday.

The rest of the students will be freed by this (Monday) evening after the scrutiny of their papers, said the jailer.

Separate courts on Sunday granted bail to 40 private university students.

Many private universities were arrested in separate cases filed with Badda and Bhatara police stations on the ninth day of the road safety movement on August 6, UNB reported.

Later, they were denied bail several times.

Protests flared up across Bangladesh on July 29 when two college students were crushed under the wheels of a bus in Dhaka city’s Kurmitola area.
