Sadarghat launch accident kills one

A man was killed in a launch accident after the vessel he was travelling in was struck by another launch at Sadarghat terminal.

The deceased has been identified as Delwar Hossain, 52. He was going to Barguna to spend Eid with his daughter and son-in-law, as per a bdnews24.com report.

Naval police Superintendent Md Atiqur Rahman told the aforementioned portal that the accident occurred at the Sadarghat Launch Terminal around 12:45pm on Tuesady.

Delwar was standing on the MV Pubali launch, which was anchored midway between the No. 7 and No. 8 pontoons when it was struck by the MV Juboraj, a passing launch.

The impact caused Hossain to hit his head on the launch’s cornice. He died on the spot, Atiqur Rahman said.

According to a BIWTA transport inspector, nearly 600,000 people travel from the Sadarghat to Bangladesh’s southern regions every day.

The number of passengers increases significantly during Eid.
