Sacked Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official Md Sharif Uddin Sacked Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official Md Sharif Uddin

Terminated deputy assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Md Sharif Uddin on Tuesday sought the prime minister's intervention to ensure fair trial of the allegations brought against him.

"To implement the zero tolerance policy against corruption, envisioned by the government, I had to face the wrath of influential people," he told reporters while coming out of the commission headquarters in the city's Segunbagicha.

"The commission could suspend me instead of removing me directly," he said, adding: "I am earnestly appealing to the premier to give me a chance for self-defence as I can refute every allegation against me."

Responding to why he came to the commission, Sharif said despite being terminated, he had to visit the ACC to confirm his attendance on a divisional case against him.

He said, "There have been three divisional cases against me - non-submission of seized money, delay in handing over documents after transfer, and delay in joining workstation."

He also mentioned that an application was submitted to the commission as per the existing rules seeking reinstatement of his job.

However, in a briefing, ACC Secretary MD Mahbub Hossain said due to the termination of job, the three pending divisional cases against Sharif Uddin had been suspended.

"I don't know why he came to the commission as verification is needed to answer that question," he said.

Replying to a question relating to Sharif's claim of getting treated unfairly by the commission, he said the ACC had already clarified its position in detail regarding termination of the officer concerned.
