A group of teachers and students of Rajshahi University (RU) on Tuesday formed a barefoot human chain in the campus protesting the recent attacks on students and activists of quota reform movement across the country.

They formed the human chain led by RU Economics Department Assistant Professor Farid Khan from 11:00am to 12:00pm in front of the grave of Dr Zoha in the campus, reports UNB.

On Monday, Prof Farid on his Facebook page called upon all teachers and students to come forward and join the human chain barefoot protesting attacks and harassments of the students.

Earlier, some members of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council, the platform of students that led the quota reform movement, were injured in attacks allegedly by some BCL activists on Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Jahangirnagar, and Shahjalal university campus repeatedly.

In April, students of public and private universities across the country waged a strong movement demanding reforms in the quota system.

Later on April 11, in the face of student agitations, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in parliament announced the abolition of all types of quotas in public jobs.
