Rotary Int’l District 3281 starts food distribution among poor people

Rotary International District 3281 has started a programme to deliver more 150,000 meals to low-income people affected by the lockdown in the country.

In addition to the programme, it will provide financial and food assistance to more than 3,000 families for a month's living expenses, according to a press release.

District Governor of Rotary M Khairul Alam inaugurated the programme at his office in Dhaka on Saturday.

He emphasised the importance of implementing the programme while maintaining social distance to the Rotarian volunteers engaged in distribution.

M Khairul Alam also suggested using mobile money transfers to provide financial assistance.

The Rotary Clubs of the country have been implementing various programmes simultaneously since the spread of the virus across the country.

The programme includes distribution of hand sanitisers, masks, awareness leaflets and foods among the extreme poor,

Setting up telemedicine call centres, provision of PPE, the formation of oxygen Poole, and alternative employment assistance to the people are also included in the programme.

With the help of the Rotary Foundation, several projects for providing free Covid-19 test kits and installation of ventilators in government and non-government organisations facilities, currently are underway, it said.

These services during the corona period of Rotary District 3281 in the country were recently highly acclaimed at the International Rotary Convention. The International Rotary Foundation has also provided financial assistance to support these initiatives in Bangladesh.

Mr, M Khairul Alam mentioned that, as long as there is the virus outbreak, Rotary will continue to work for the people of Bangladesh to address the crisis through various programmes and initiatives.
