Road crashes leave nine dead in Gaibandha, Netrokona

Separate road accidents claimed at least nine lives in Gaibandha and Netrokona districts on Saturday.

Five people, including four of a family, died in a head-on collision between a bus and tractor in Gaibandha. Meanwhile, four passengers were killed in a collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto rickshaw in Netrokona, reports UNB.

In Gaibandha, five people were killed and 10 others were injured in the accident that took place on Gaibandha-Palashbari road in Palashbari upazila.

Four of the deceased were identified as Entazul Islam, his sister Kakoli Begum, his wife Afroza Begum, their daughter Hena Begum of Sundarganj upazila in Gaibandha, said officer-in-charge of Polashbari Police Station Mostafizur Rahman.

The accident took place when the Dhaka-bound bus of Darbar Paribahan collided head-on with the tractor around 12:15 am, leaving four people dead on the spot and 10 others injured.

Later, one of the injured people died on the way to hospital. The injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.

The bodies were sent to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

In Netrokona, At least four people were killed and three others injured after a bus collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw onKendua-Atharabari road in Maska Bazar area in Kendua upazila on Saturday.

The accident took place around 2:30 pm when a bus collided with the auto-rickshaw leaving four persons dead on the spot and injuring three others, said Shahjahan Mia, additional superintendent of Netrakona police.

Two of the injured were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital in critical condition.
