Road crashes kill 4 in 2 dists

Four people died and 20 others were injured in two separate road accidents in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet district and Gopalganj Sadar upazila on Saturday.

In Sylhet, Shri Shukla Rani, 23, wife of Tapan Talukdar, her daughter Itapa Rani, 5, and her mother-in-law Aumka Rani, 55, residents of Varaora village in Shrimangal upazila of Moulvibazar were killed when their bus crashed into a truck at Darbasto on Sylhet-Tamabil road around 7pm.

Twenty people were also injured in the accident, said UNB citing Khan Mohammad Mainul Jakir, officer-in-charge of Jaintapur Model Police Station.

In Gopalganj, a female student of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science & Technology University (BSMRSTU) was killed after pickup van knocked down her at Ghunapar in sadar upazila in the afternoon.

Police said Champa Mandal, 22, daughter of Sudeb Mandal of Dalirakhali village, in Dakope upazila of Khulna district, was hit by the vehicle while crossing the road.

The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy, said Selim Reza, officer-in-charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station.
